What is the difference between a Domestic Violence case and a Section 498A case?

A Domestic Violence case primarily seeks civil reliefs, such as protection orders, residence rights, monetary relief, custody, and compensation, to protect the aggrieved woman. In contrast, Section 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (formerly Section 498A IPC) is a criminal provision that deals with cruelty by the husband or his relatives and may result in criminal prosecution and punishment. Both remedies can be pursued simultaneously, depending on the facts of the case.
