What is a Compensation Order?
A Compensation Order is a specific court instruction that forces the abuser to pay financial damages granted under Section 22 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. It allows the Magistrate to award compensation and damages to an aggrieved woman for the mental torture, emotional distress, and injuries caused by acts of domestic violence. The relief is in addition to any other remedies available under the Act and is meant to compensate the victim for the harm suffered.
