Does domestic violence include verbal abuse?

Yes. Verbal abuse is a recognised form of domestic violence under the Act. It includes

·      repeated insults,

·      abusive language,

·      name-calling,

·      humiliation,

·      ridicule,

·      or remarks intended to demean or intimidate a woman.

Continuous verbal abuse that affects a woman's dignity or emotional well-being can be a valid ground for seeking protection under the law.
